The Bhutan Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to community-led development and sustainable livelihoods with the inauguration of the renovated Samcholing Green Tea House in Trongsa, supported through the Foundation’s Revitalisation and Income Support Effort (RISE) for Samcholing Tea Community project.
The renovated tea house marks an important milestone in strengthening Samcholing’s local tea enterprise, empowering women, and creating sustainable economic opportunities. It will provide an improved facility for the community to promote its locally produced green tea and strengthen its market presence.
The inauguration brought together the Bhutan Foundation’s senior leadership, including Co-Chair Lucy Goelet, Vice Chair Henry Lewis, Board and Advisory Council members, representatives from the Trongsa Dzongkhag Administration, and members of the Samcholing tea community.
Beyond the inauguration, the visit provided an opportunity for the Foundation’s leadership to engage directly with the community, particularly the women’s group driving the local tea enterprise. Discussions focused on their experiences, aspirations, and opportunities to further strengthen tea production, local entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods.
The initiative reflects the Bhutan Foundation’s continued commitment to supporting grassroots enterprises through meaningful partnerships, community participation, and locally driven solutions.
The Bhutan Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to the Samcholing tea community, the dedicated women’s group, and the Trongsa Dzongkhag Administration for their warm welcome, partnership, and continued collaboration.
Together, these efforts are helping Samcholing build more than a tea enterprise. They are nurturing economic opportunities, empowering communities, and laying the foundation for a more resilient and sustainable future.
