To help introduce more practical training on infants and their care, the Bhutan Foundation helped support two staff from the Wangdicholing Hospital in Bumthang in a course on neonatal care. Tshewang Zangpo and Khenrab Jamyang recently completed this two-week attachment training on neonatal management at Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital, Thimphu.
The objective of the two-week program was to learn practical applications for preterm sick newborns. The training covered several areas of infant care such as feeding tube maintenance, advanced life support, infection control, and incubator care to name a few.
Thanks to this training, Tshewang and Khenrab can manage early neonatal sepsis, feed preterm babies, and provide kangaroo mother care back at Bumthang Hospital, which will help to minimize neonatal and infant mortality rates.
