Tendruk Central School in Samtse has taken an innovative step towards sustainability with the implementation of its student-led waste management project. In addition to constructing a new waste segregation facility, the school has acquired the necessary waste segregation and storage materials such as bins, biodegradable plastic bags, sewing machines, protective gear, and other essential tools, all funded by the Bhutan Foundation’s Small Grants Program. Through this project, the school aims to ensure that waste is appropriately collected, segregated, and disposed of in an environment-friendly manner.
At the school, students are actively involved in project implementation, waste audits, action research, and a community awareness campaign. Through these activities, students would gain an understanding of the importance of waste management and develop a sense of responsibility towards their environment. Additionally, their efforts are helping to educate the community about the importance of sustainable waste management practices, encouraging them to adopt more eco-friendly habits.
Tendruk Central School is a recipient of the Bhutan Foundation’s 2022 Small Grants Program. Read more about our Small Grants Program.
