What goes into restoring 19th century murals at the palace that birthed Bhutan’s monarchy?

Time, hard work, specialized training, and a whole lot of paint!

This year, 17 students from the Institute of Zorig Chusum trained in the conservation and use of traditional mineral paints. Their knowledge, along with that of countless other workers, is serving to help restore the Wangduechhoeling Palace into a museum and educational center.

As the late Dasho Pasang, who served the court of the Second King, said, “The palace is our national treasure. It has a rich history, a lot of significance to the royal family and thus to Bhutan. Value it before it is too late.”
