International Glacial Symposium and Inauguration of the Daphne Hall at UWICE

A three-day International Glacial Symposium at Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment was held in Bumthang (central Bhutan) from April 16 to 19 with support from the Bhutan Foundation. Forty-five International and national glacier experts participated in the symposium where they discussed current knowledge of Himalayan glaciers were discussed. Research highlighting the importance of Himalayan glaciers was presented through studies on snow cover mapping and monitoring in the Hindu Kush, the Glacier Lake Outburst of Ice Age in Ladakh and Zanskar and many more.

The Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Forests, Lyonpo Yeshi Dorji, opened the symposium on April 16 in the Daphne Hall.The Daphne Hall was constructed with the generous financial support from Mrs. Daphne Hoch Cunningham through the Bhutan Foundation.
