Food Security Program

Food security is a growing concern for Bhutan, especially in rural areas, where agriculture is the primary livelihood. The Bhutan Foundation, in collaboration with local NGOs and community-based organizations, is committed to strengthening Bhutan’s agricultural sector, ensuring that the country can meet the nutritional needs of its population. In response to challenges like climate change, water scarcity, human-wildlife conflict, and labor shortages, we focus on promoting sustainable agricultural practices, improving farm productivity, and supporting community-led initiatives.

Updates

The Bhutan Foundation’s Food Security initiatives have seen remarkable progress over the years. From training farmers in climate-smart and organic farming techniques to providing modern farming equipment, our programs have empowered local communities to become more resilient to food supply disruptions. During the COVID-19 pandemic, our projects helped mitigate food shortages, supplying vegetables, fruits, and cereals to frontline workers and households facing lockdowns. Currently, we are focusing on expanding mechanization, strengthening irrigation systems, and increasing the diversification of crops to ensure sustainable food production.
